The University of Kerala plunged into an unprecedented administrative crisis, because the bitter power struggle between the syndicate and the vice -chairman led to the appointment of two registrars and created chaos and confusion in the institution.
The day after the syndicate was renewed by the KS Anil Kumar registrar, a temporary vice -rector of foreign Thomas appointed a director (planning and development) Mini Dejo Kappen as a registrar through a separate order because she remained strong on her attitude that the Syndicate decision was legally invalid. Dr. Kappen, who accepted appointment, worked from another room on academic soil.
Replaced a common registrar
The crisis escalated further after the vice -chairman replaced P. Harikumar as a joint registrar (administration). Hema Anandan, a joint registrar (academic), was appointed to the position of Mr. Harikumar at the Syndicate meeting after prof. Thomas. Apparently he also did not respond to the explanation that the vice -chairman was looking for and went on vacation.
Governor searches for message
Macedlock could further intensify with the intervention of Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Alelekar, who also serves as a Chancellor at the University. Raj Bhavan searched for a detailed report from the vice -chairman of chaotic development and the Syndicate decision on Sunday. Prof. Thomas reportedly stated in his answer that the Syndicate’s decision to cancel the suspension was illegal and lacked the process validity.
Minister of Higher Education, R. Binda, claimed that the vice -chairmen who were temporarily appointed overestimated their administrative boundaries without fully understanding the regulations regulating their roles. Rather than inciting controversy, temporary vice -chairwoman must move forward to the academic community by acting with restriction and responsibility.
General Minister of Education V. Sivankuta accused the Governor of the University of the University and accused him of interfering with administrative affairs and incorrectly interpreting the University Act.
Activists of the Indian Federation of Students and Organizations included in the left alignment organized protests on the university campus against the “autocratic behavior” of the vice -rector, who is to charge Muhanan Kunnummal, who is expected to return in a few days after a short visit to Russia.
