
Voice of the People Party (VPP), the latest regional political entities of Meghalaya, suspended one of his four Mla and four other party leaders for activities against the parties.
MLA, Adelbert Nongrum, represents the North Shilllong regions.
Kara H. Shen, Vice President of the VPP, said the MLA in letter 24.
“It is observed that your answer, rather than expressing regret or recognition of fears, was defensive, confrontational and lacked any signs of regret regarding measures that are considered harmful to the party’s interests.
Mr. Shen said the party found that Mr. Nongrum’s explanation was unsatisfactory and immediately suspended him for three years. The MLA was asked not to represent the party on any forum or public platform during his period.
VPP also suspended Snarbor Laloo, Imti Jamir, Wilstone Sohshang and Richinbusiness Marwein, who tried to leave the party’s tickets to the autonomous district council Khasi Hills (Khadc). The period of their suspension has not been determined.
Mr. Nongrum joined the VPP before the elections of the 2023 Assembly in Meghalaya. It was the North Shilllong chair for the Khun HynniewtreP National Awakening movement.
After the VPP sinned his nominated for Khadc surveys held on February 21, he released a video with four others and criticized the party. In 2024, he also questioned the selection of Ricky Aj Syngkon as his candidate for the Shilllong Lok Sabha election district.
Mr. Syngkon secured more than 55% of the votes to pack the Shillong seat.
Mr. Nongrum’s alienation was reflected in the part of the other three MLAs did not support the private accounts he submitted in the assembly.
The VPP is on the rise from the elections to the Assembly of 2023. His Bull Run seeing the victory of 17 seats in Khadc, the uprooting of the National Democratic Constituent National People’s Party (NPP) and its ally.
VPP finished second behind the NPP in the autonomous district council Jaintia Hills by packing eight seats. Of the 30 seats in each Council, one is one for a nominated member.
