The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department on Sunday (November 9, 2025) launched a pilot project of Danish Asphalt Fiber Reinforcement Technology on National Highway-342 between Puttaparthi and Koduru in Sri Sathya Sai District.
According to a press release issued here, the initiative led by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu marked a major milestone for the district, which is emerging as a key connectivity hub connecting the Rayalaseema region with major national corridors. Officials said the project will significantly improve road quality and travel efficiency in and around Puttaparthi – an internationally renowned spiritual destination that attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Already proven in projects such as Heathrow Airport (UK), the Dubai Metro and the German A7 motorway, the Danish technology reinforces asphalt with high-performance aramid and polyolefin fibers. This makes roads more resistant to cracks, potholes and damage from heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions.
Officials said the technology could extend the life of the roadway by more than 50% while reducing maintenance costs. It is also environmentally friendly and compatible with existing machines.
With Sri Sathya Sai district selected as a testing ground for this advanced method, Andhra Pradesh is aiming to become a national leader in sustainable road innovation. If successful, the model will likely be replicated on other highways in the state and the country.
