Ramaiah Group’s Gokula Education Foundation (Medical) in association with University at Albany, State University of New York, on Thursday launched Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management (RISM), India’s first stand-alone greenfield university in Bengaluru.
Conceived as a next-generation STEM and management university, RISM will provide a globally tested, industry-integrated engineering and management education that prioritizes resilience, translational research and measurable societal impact, Ramaiah Group said in a statement.
RISM’s main residential campus is being built in Bengaluru in the IT investment area near Devanahalli, close to major innovation hubs and industrial anchors. Academic operations will begin from the transit campus in Yelahance in August 2026, with the main campus scheduled to be fully operational by September 2028, Ramaiah Group said.
All programs will follow a fully residential model to promote holistic development through sports, culture, wellness, leadership and entrepreneurial initiatives, creating an immersive environment where industry context, academic rigor and research converge to build the future, the group said.
MR Jayaram, Chairman and Chancellor of RISM, said India’s education sector has lagged behind industrial liberalization since 1990, creating a 40-year gap between industry needs and educational outcomes. “RISM is designed to bridge this gap through outcomes-based experiential learning that has been part of the industry since day one,” he said.
Dr. Havidan Rodriguez, president of the University at Albany, State University of New York, said higher education systems built decades or centuries ago served an economy that no longer exists. “RISM is being built from the ground up to thrive in today’s rapidly changing economy – and to lead it, not just follow it,” he said.
