
After the theft reported in February this year, the railway police carefully monitored more than four months before it was forced into a 37 -year -old vehicle from Uttarakhand, allegedly involved in theft of passengers in the last five years.
The accused, Jitendra Kumar Chawla, is reportedly involved in 17 cases of theft throughout India, four of which are from Karnataka. It was also involved in theft of 200 grams of gold valuables by Shivanand Shivayogi Swami from Kodi Mutt in Arsikere, while traveling by train in June 2018, they added.
On the basis of a complaint filed in February on theft of 65,000 GBP from a passenger identified as Shankar Rao Kulkarni, Soumyalatha SK, police superintendent, railway, created a special team that traced the accused.
The special team gathered the CCTV camera shots and identified the accused who was on the run. The police shared a photo, a physical description and other identifiable features of the accused with their counterparts all over the state to follow.
After four months of persecution, the police finally charged the accused of the allegedly red as he traveled on the train looking for his next goal.
The police said it received 281 grams of gold valuables worth 22.7 Lakh in connection with four cases listed at the railway station.
“The accused, an alcoholic, stopped valuables and spent money on expensive liqueur and gambling in the Goa casinos,” the police said.
