A group of people staged a demonstration demanding internal reservation for Scheduled Castes at Babu Jagjivan Ram Circle in Mysuru on Sunday (April 5).
Carrying placards, the protesters criticized Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa and shouted slogans against the state government for not implementing internal reservation for scheduled castes in the state.
The protesters said that the Congress government has no moral right to celebrate the birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram, who ensured social justice for the Scheduled Castes during his tenure.
When D. Thimmaiah, MLC, who was also present, assured the protesters that the government was committed to implementing internal reservation, the protesters called on him to resign and join the movement demanding implementation of internal reservation.
The protesters later gheraoed Harish Gowda, Chamaraja MLA, and informed him that the Madiga community in the constituency had voted in his favor in the last election, but the MLA had not spoken in favor of the community.
“You just want votes from the community, but you don’t want to give them social justice?” a protester asked Mr. Gowda before urging him to raise his voice in the Legislative Assembly on their behalf.
