
In growing concerns about growing addictive substances among young people, Kozhikode Corporation seeks to promote sport as a positive alternative. The core of the initiative is the Sports Academy, which the company plans to set up with the support of the District Sports Council.
As a preliminary step, a study was carried out by a study on available courses throughout the city. According to the study, there are a total of 311 playgrounds – some owned by companies, others from schools and universities and some under private ownership. Football, which is the most popular sport in the region, is played on 72 of these land, of which 21 are owned by a corporation.
However, the study also found that most courses lack related coaching equipment. Therefore, the company plans to develop coaching centers for various folk demand sports. The plan also includes training centers for yoga and aerobics.
Deputy Mayor of CP Musafar Ahamed, in the budget of corporation for 2025–26, recently said that sufficient funds were earmarked for the revival of playgrounds with the support of local clubs and the population association and to buy the necessary equipment for each sports event.
Budget assignments include CRORE 4 GBP to gain the soil on the Venti playground, £ 30 for the construction of the soil in Palatuthazham, 25 Lakh for the development of the soil in Bhatt Road, £ 20 lakh for soil in Puthiyapp, 25 lakh for pallith pallith.
The Sports Academy, which is to be developed under the theme “Sports for All, All for Sports”, is in line with the sporting policy of the state government.
The Academy will focus on the development of basic infrastructure and best uses available human resources. Corporation Council has recently been approved at the Academy.
The civic body also plans to organize various sports competitions among schools at the level of corporations and offer training in selected sports at designated schools with the support of the Government University of Physical Education.
