An attempt to start the service of a passenger boat to the Gulf countries from the state came across harsh weather because a company that showed interest in the project was looking for time to acquire vessels suitable for this service for more than a year. The state tried to launch the services of passengers of cruise ships to the United Arab Emirates to transport a large number of overseas passengers, especially during the festive season to minimize the impact of the predatory prices of airlines operating in this industry.
According to the offer floated by the Naval Council (KMB), the project Agency on 7 March 2024 was reflected in the project – for the “operation of passenger ships/vessels/vessels connecting West Asia/GCC with Kerala” using the port infrastructure in Kerala. Subsequently, a meeting was held on August 6, 2024 between KMB and India (SCI) with the presence of two potential candidates on discussion on the technical aspects of the project.
However, according to the Ministry of Ports, Transport and Waterways, interested parties do not yet have candidates to obtain suitable vessels for this service. KMB will be provided by anchors and passengers equipment together with infrastructure necessary for operation – after the necessary fees. Hope for a comeback
Although the project has been delayed, the KMB hopes that it could be brought back to the road, with about 19 lakh kerite in terms of the huge diaspora due to the state, especially in the United Arab Emirates. After several rounds of discussions with airlines operating in this sector, however, the project hit the air pocket.
