
In selected schools in the state, a project was launched to develop physical literacy among school students.
The coordinator is VP Sakeer Hussain, the head of the physical education department at the University of Calicut. In the first phase, 850 students from 11 schools in Kerala will participate in the project. Class I students will be trained for four years and observed as part of the study. Their basic skills of mobility and sporting ability will be monitored. The Schools Involved Are Alps Kolakkattuchali, Svaups Chelembra, Alps Chelembra, AMLPS Perunthodipadam, Alps Pullumkun, Ammaups Cheloopadam, Glps Calicut University Campus, AUPS Tencem, Gmups Parakkadavu Chelod, All in Malappuram District.
1.5 CRORE 1.5 GBP was sanctioned for the project approved by the Indian Social Science Research Council. Mr. Dina, professor, physical education, sree sankacharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady; Nafih Cherappurath, Associate Professor, Department of Physical Education, Amal College of Advanced Studies, Nilambur; VA Shapeeque, Head of Physical Education, Government Medical College, Thrissur; And Zubir Medammal, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, University of Calicut, are part of it.
Mr. Sakeer Hussain on Sunday (August 3) told the Hindus that this was an initiative of the first kind that would include physical literacy in the school curriculum. “Over the four years, students will be trained in basic and basic physical movements, such as digging football or dribbling basketball. We will see changes in their physical and psychological attitude, character and appearance,” he said.
Up to 3,000 students selected from Keral, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka would be involved, the official sources said. The project would be introduced at eight schools in Tamil Nad in the next week. In Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka it would be launched by August 20, they added sources.
