The prisoner who served in prison in the central prison of Shivamogg after being convicted of Ganja-Peddling, allegedly swallowed a cell phone.
Alias Doulath alias Gunda, 30, allegedly proceeded to prison staff 24th June and said he suffered from stomach pain after swallowing a piece of stone. Employees took him to McGann Hospital. After the examination, doctors noticed a foreign body in the stomach and recommended surgery.
He has undergone surgery and the doctors found a cell phone measuring one inch and three inches in length. It was removed from his stomach and the doctors handed over the phone to the Prison Authorities 8 July.
The next day the main superintendent of P. Ranganath filed a complaint with the Tung Nagar police against Doulath. The police registered the matter about the charges of carrying a forbidden article within the prison.
In June 2024, Doulath was convicted by the district court in Shivamogg on drugs and was sentenced to 10 years of strict imprisonment.
