The police refuse to register a case of Ansiba’s defamation complaint
The Palarivattom police have informed actress Ansiba Hassan that they cannot register a case against a complaint filed by her against co-stars Shwetha Menon and Lakshmipriya, alleging that a malicious campaign was organized on their part.
The police said they could not register a first information report as the allegations were only for defamation.
“The police cannot start an investigation for defamation. They have to approach the court to investigate. We have handed over the same to the complainant,” said a police officer.
Ms. Hassan filed a complaint against Ms. Menon and Ms. Lakshmipriya, president and vice-president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), in the last week of June following some alleged controversial remarks made by Ms. Lakshmipriya in an interview with an online channel. In her complaint, actress Drishyam has reportedly alleged that the interview was part of a smear campaign orchestrated by Ms. Menon and Ms. Lakshmipriya following the internal unrest in AMMA.
The latest development comes even after Hill Palace police and Kadavanthra police registered two cases based on Ms Hassan’s complaints. The Hill Palace police arrested Ms. Lakshmipriya and the sub-inspector and the Kadavanthra police registered an FIR against actor Tiny Tom in these cases. Both the cases were registered on the basis of court orders after the police initially refused to register an FIR.
