Around 782 policemen have been deployed to ensure peaceful conduct of the first phase of gram panchayat elections to be held in five mandals of Karimnagar district on Thursday.
Tight security arrangements have been made in 858 polling stations covering 91 gram panchayats in Choppadandi, Gangadhara, Ramadugu, Kothapalli and Karimnagar rural mandals where gram panchayat elections will be held on Thursday from 7 am to 1 pm. This will be followed by the counting of votes, which will begin at 2 p.m
Strike teams and mobile parties will also be deployed during the elections to avoid any unexpected incidents and ensure smooth conduct of the elections, focusing on sensitive polling stations, the police said.
Arrangements are in place to continuously monitor the election process by micro-observers and broadcast the voting process in sensitive polling stations whenever necessary, the sources added.
A 2,000-strong contingent of policemen has been deployed in Khammam district in the first phase of the election bandobus. Bans under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were imposed at polling stations in poll-bound mandals in the erstwhile composite Khammam district.
The police have deployed around 936 police personnel for the first phase of gram panchayat polls to be held in 166 villages covering six mandals in Adilabad district.
Additional police forces will be deployed in critical and sensitive polling stations as part of an elaborate bandobust plan, police said.
