Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday (May 7, 2026) expressed confidence that the police would solve the murder of his executive assistant Chandranath Rath, saying that investigators were “going in the right direction”.
Mr. Adhikari arrived at Barasat Hospital where Mr. Rath’s post-mortem was in progress.
“The police are working. I have spoken to the DGP; they have leads and some people have been arrested. I am sure the police will be able to arrest the attackers. The CID, forensics and SIT are in action and the police are heading in the right direction,” Mr Adhikari told reporters outside the hospital.
He claimed that the police were capable of solving the cases but alleged that they were “not allowed” to do so earlier, in an apparent dig at the TMC government.
Asked about the TMC’s demand for a CBI probe into the murder, Mr. Adhikari said, “TMC is not relevant now. The police will be able to sort it out.” Senior BJP leaders Samik Bhattacharya and Rahul Sinha also reached the hospital.
Mr Rath was shot dead by bike-borne assailants who intercepted his vehicle near Doltala in Madhyamgram on Wednesday (May 6, 2026) around 10.30 pm, forced him to stop and opened fire before fleeing.
