The owners of the vehicles booked after two minors were caught driving

The Adoor traffic police arrested the mother of a 16-year-old boy and the registered owner of the motorcycle after they caught two minors driving a car and riding a motorcycle near Parakkode in Ezhamkulam.

The police received information that the teenager often drove through the busy areas of Adoor and Kodumon and posted videos of himself behind the wheel on social media. Acting on a tip-off, they have stepped up checks in Adoor and surrounding areas over the past two days. They spotted the car near Parakkode-Ezhamkulam around 1 pm on Tuesday and intercepted it. Another teenager from Nedumon was driving a car without a driver’s license, a 16-year-old arrived shortly after on a motorcycle.

“Videos posted on social media showed the teenagers speeding on busy roads on motorbikes and maneuvering through narrow gaps between heavy vehicles. Other clips showed them doing car drifts and driving,” a police official said.

The car was registered in the name of a resident of Nedumon in Ezhamkulam. The motorcycle was registered in the name of Raveendran, 65, of Pathanapuram in Kollam.

The police registered cases under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023 and Sections 180, 181 and 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The provisions cover reckless driving on public roads, allowing an unauthorized person to drive, offenses involving minors and driving without a valid driving licence.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused allegedly allowed minors to recklessly and negligently drive vehicles on public roads, endangering human life.

Mr. Raveendran told the police that he had sold the motorcycle a few months ago but had not updated its registration details. Officials said the person named in the vehicle’s registration certificate could still be prosecuted if they failed to produce documents proving the motorcycle had been sold.
