The Kannur Corporation Council Council was adjourned on Thursday (April 24, 2025) after the protests of opposition members who demanded an urgent action to deal with lack of firewood in the Payyambialam crematorium.
The meeting, which began at 11 am, was packed within five minutes after the mayor of Muslih Manathil threw himself through the agenda in the middle of chaos.
The meeting began with a pre -detection for those who were killed in the terrorist attack of Pahalgam and for the late Pope Francis. However, as soon as the proceedings began, the councilors of the left democratic front (LDF) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested and demanded immediate discussion of lack of firewood in the crematorium.
Opposition members entered the Hall Council who held the labels and continued to increase slogans, despite the mayor’s assurance that this problem could be solved after the planned agenda. The protest escalated when councilors IUML KP Abdul Razak sought increased governmental financing and raised objections from opposition members demanding a focus on the problem of crematorium.
The police were deployed in anticipation of riots. The opposition councilors later continued to protest outside the councilors.
