On Saturday, the opposition organized extensive protests throughout the state, which sought resignation of the Minister of Health Veena George as a result of the death of a woman in the collapse of a building in a government medical university hospital in Kottayam.
In the state capital, a large number of congress activists took a march to the official residence of the Minister, but met police resistance. The angry activists tried to push through and expand the barricades built by the police to keep them at bay. They held the flags and shouted the slogans and demanded that the minister left. Police repeatedly used water cannons in an effort to distract the protesters, without success.
The protests were also held by the Student Association, Mahila Congress, Muslim Youth League and Bharatiya Janata Party in other places. The marches were detained to the offices of district medical officers (DMO) in various districts.
In Kannura, the protest march of the youth congress protests against the DMO office violent, which led to a conflict with the police and disturbances of traffic. The protest saw the police using water cannons after the activists tried to forcibly open the DMO office gate. The situation escalated when several protesters modified the gate and tried to plant banana plants at the top of a symbolic protest.
The protests were held in Wayanad, Caragod and Pathanamthitta. In Angamala, activists of the youth congress waved the black flag with the Minister of Cooperation of the HV Vasavan.
In Chalakuda, the leader of the opposition VD Satheesan accused the left democratic front (LDF) of gross negligence in healthcare. Instead of coordinating the rescue efforts, the Minister of Health and the Minister of Cooperation only arrived on the scene to present manifestations, which further postponed the critical time of the reaction.
The protests were also held in Palakkad. A large number of Congress activists have tried to adjust the barricades and enter the DMO office. Activists, including female activists, and the police dealt with Scuffle. Congress head Ramesh Chenninithala said that the main Minister Pinaraya Vijayan should at least look for a resignation of the Minister of Health with regard to her alleged inefficiency before going abroad for medical treatment. The minister was fully responsible for the health sector that ended up in ruins, he said.
