BJP Legislature Party President Alleti Maheshwar Reddy criticized the 2026-27 budget, claiming that it failed to allocate sufficient funds to implement the promises made by the Congress before the general elections. He said the budget was full of “blatant lies”.
At the very beginning of his speech during the general discussion on the budget in the Assembly on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy termed it a “fraudulent budget”.
Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu took strong exception to the remark, terming it unparliamentary and calling on Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to strike the word from the record, which the Speaker considered.
Continuing his attack on the government, the BJPLP leader questioned the allocation of just 7% funds to the education department, which he said was 2% less than what was allocated in the 2025-26 budget. He also criticized the government for what he called inadequate allocations to the BC Welfare Department and several other departments.
Mr. Reddy further accused the government of failing to integrate TGSRTC employees even 27 months after coming to power. “Furthermore, freight services have been handed over to the company,” he alleged, alleging that the government was trying to privatize the corporation.
A heated exchange ensued between him and members of the Treasury Benches over the issue of transfer of funds and relief grants from the BJP-led Centre.
CPI Floor Leader Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, who joined the debate, expressed concern over the mounting debts and suggested the state government to consider returning the allotted lands that went to rich individuals after the poor beneficiaries were forced to sell them. “About 25 thousand acres were allotted to the poor but only 2% of this land was left for them,” he claimed, claiming that reclaiming such land would help ease the government’s financial stress.
AIMIM MLA Mohammad Majid Hussain urged the government to ensure adequate funding for minority welfare and said minority students were suffering due to non-release of scholarships.
