The Cyberabad police on Tuesday (May 12) issued a notice for Bandi Sai Bageerath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, to appear before investigators in connection with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenders (POCSO) Act registered against him.
A notice issued by the Station House Officer of Petbasheerabad police station directed Bageerath to appear before the police by 2 pm on May 13 (Wednesday) for inquiry and investigation of the case.
According to the notice, the case was initially registered under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and Section 11 read with Section 12 of the POCSO Act on a complaint filed by the mother of the minor girl.
The police stated in the announcement that, based on the victim’s statement, the sections of the law were later amended to § 5 letter l) as amended by Section 6 of the POCSO Act, which deal with aggravated sexual assault.
The notice further warned that failure to follow the instructions may result in legal action being initiated against the accused in accordance with the law.
The development comes at a time when Bageerath approached the Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case.
On May 8, a charge of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl was registered against him at the Petbasheerabad police station.
Earlier, Bageerath had also filed a complaint at the Karimnagar II police station, alleging that the girl and her parents had tried to trap him and demanded ₹5 lakh to avoid filing a police complaint. Based on his complaint, the police registered a separate case against the girl and her parents under sections related to extortion, intimidation and criminal conspiracy.
Further investigation of the case is ongoing.
