“The northeast region is the core of many key Indian policies – it could be the” neighborhood “first, acting east or Bimstec. The northeast is adjacent to five of our neighbors on the ground. Its boundaries are an interface between the Indian subcontinent and ASEAN.
The remarks of the Minister of the External Affairs come fourteen days after Mr. Yunus created controversy by referring to the northeast region as a “inland” territory that could be an “extension” of the Chinese market. The Ministry of External Affairs did not make an official reaction, although India has ended the translation of Bangladesh over Indian soil and airports that meet with “overload”.
“He emphasized the growing importance of the northeast – as a gateway to Southeast Asia, the healing of tourism and a contributor to a global workplace,” said Mr. Jaishankar in the note of X.

“We are trying to solve long -term challenges, some are based on our past history,” said Mr. Jaishankar, emphasized the “Purvodaya” scheme of the Indian government, which he described as “efforts in this respect”. Jaishankar also stated that the government emphasized the tourist potential of the northeast states during the period before the G-20 summit in Delhi 2023 when some preparatory meetings took place there.
He also talked about a trilateral highway aimed at interconnecting India and Thailand through Myanmar and the Kaladanian multimodal transit transport project (KMTTP), which was conceived to combine the northeast region with the Myanmar port in Sittwe. “In every sense it is a center whose importance will grow over time,” said Mr. Jaishankar.
