In Tirupati district, the last day of filing nominations for ZPTC and MPTC posts ended on Friday. Collector S. Venkateswar and Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu inspected several nomination centers across the district, including Chandragiri, Ramachandrapuram, Srikalahasti, Thottambedu, Kodur, Pullampeta and Obulavaripalle mandals to get an idea of the security arrangements at the venues.
The process adopted for the MPTC/ZPTC polls and counting of votes will be replicated for the next Sarpanch election as well, Mr. Venkateswar said.
Mr. Subbarayudu said the ministry had provided all facilities to enable the contending candidates to file nominations peacefully and fearlessly. The officials sought the cooperation of political leaders across party lines to ensure the conduct of the elections in a free and fair manner.
Meanwhile, the reopening of the nomination phase for certain municipalities and corporations has rekindled hopes among those who could not file their documents in the previous phase. At the same time, those who filed their papers and hoped to win the polls had to face a long phase of tension.
A lot of tension was visible on the faces of the candidates in Mydukur in Kadapa district where nomination was opened in all wards. Some problem wards were reopened in Kadapa, Tirupati Corporations and Rajampeta Municipality.
