The Kozhikode Corporation has launched a clean-up drive as part of the state government’s 100-day action programme, the ‘Nirmalam – Puthuyuga Suchitwa Keralam’ campaign, which aims to achieve a comprehensive transformation of waste management through public participation.

Mayor O. Sadasivan launched the corporation-level campaign on the District Court premises by participating in a cleaning drive on Tuesday.

The campaign, which aims to transform the sanitation and waste management sector between October 2026 and March 30, 2031, will be implemented in three phases – short, medium and long term – with the aim of achieving its goals by March 30, celebrated as International Zero Waste Day.

Short-term activities will run from October 2026 to 2 October 2027, the medium-term phase will run from 2 October 2027 to 5 June 2030. Long-term interventions will focus on ensuring sustainable improvements in sanitation and waste management.

Officials said the corporation has called a special council meeting as part of the campaign and will form Nirmalam Shuchitwa Keralam committees in all its departments.

Scientific waste management and hygiene practices will be ensured in households, commercial establishments, schools, government offices, roads, markets, bus stations, bulky waste generating facilities, public spaces and tourist destinations.

The cleaning and protection of water bodies will also be a key part of the campaign. The company will increase enforcement against violations, including illegal dumping, while seeking to promote awareness and responsible waste management through public participation.

Deputy Mayor S. Jayasree presided.
