The newly elected President Bharatiya Janata Party West Bengal, Samik Bhattacharya, called for the Congress of Trinamool on Thursday (July 3, 2025) for the defeat of Trinamool in the next year of the election of the State Assembly and sought help supporters in removing the main Minister Mamata Banatye.
In his first address after taking a post from Sukant Majumdar Mr. Bhattacharya, 62, he urged opposition political parties in the state to keep their individual flags aside. “Leave all ideologies aside and join to remove Trinamool out of power. Then you can increase your flag and find your own way again. There will be room for opposition,” said BJP chief.
However, the leader of the opposition of Suvend Adhikari, who spoke to the same events, urged the inhabitants of the state to be careful on the left. “They say secular, bring Muslims in their gatherings and divide Hindu voices. In the last surveys of Lok Sabha, BJP lost 12 seats in the state,” said Mr. Adhikari.
More than 10% of votes with left, congress
Although BJP has appeared as the main opposition party in West Bengal, it is behind the ruling Congress of Trinamool according to the voting share of 10%. The left front led by the Indian Communist Party (Marxist) and Congress have no places in West Bengal, but these parties have gained a share of voting in the last election by more than 10%.
Mr. Bhattacharya said that people from West Bengal realized that BJP could be able to remove the Congress of Trinamool and that the slogan “Sonarbengal (Golden Bengal)” can become a fact by bringing investment in the state.
“No power can ensure that Mamata Banerjee returns to power in the fourth state in 2026,” said Mr. Bhattacharya. Following the history of BJP in West Bengal – since it was a “irrelevant” political power with a voting share of less than 1% – BJP leader said that the party has now become the main opposition party in its own power.
“Muslims kill Muslims”
The newly elected BJP President also addressed a minority community in the state and said: “BJP fighting is not against minorities. We are not against Muslims … We want to provide them with books for migrating workers.
Mr. Bhattacharya accused Mrs. Banerjee’s government of insulting the municipal abyss in the state. In political violence, which occurs under the Trinamool Congress, “Muslims killed Muslims,” he said.
Unification of veterans BJP, newcomers
The event was also present by the departing President of BJP West Bengal Sukanta Majumdar, where he and Mr. Adhikari promised to cooperate with Mr. Bhattacharya.
The new BJP president also tried to combine veterans and new participants on the side.
“The old timers in the party must remember that without newcomers, the party can not grow. We cannot order people from Kumartuli to create cadres for us. At the same time, newcomers must not forget that the old guard held the flag high, even if the defeat was inevitable,” said Mr. Bhattacharya.
