The NDA secures six of the nine urban local bodies in Kadapa district unopposed

NDA mayoral candidate Matli Suvarna is campaigning in Kadapa on Sunday.

In a significant development, the TDP-led NDA has secured the post of chairpersons in six urban local bodies in Kadapa district, considered the stronghold of the YSR family, ahead of the elections. Candidates representing the ruling coalition were unanimously elected to the positions.

Despite the disruption caused by the revised schedule announced by the State Election Commission (SEC) on the instructions of the Supreme Court, the ruling coalition has focused on ensuring the unanimous election of as many ward councilors and chairmen as possible.

Gorla Madhulatha (Yerraguntla), Nandyala Raghava Reddy (Proddatur), Dhanapala Jaganmohan Raju (Mydukur), Somasila Divyateja (Badvel), Gongalireddy Swapna (Kamalapuram) and Dontham Gayatri (Rajampet) were elected unopposed as chairpersons.

In Rajampet, 14 NDA candidates and an independent candidate were elected unanimously. However, in Pulivendula, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s aunt YS Prameela is in a close fight with TDP candidate T. Geetha Kumari.

Several YSRCP councilor candidates also withdrew from the contest in municipalities such as Pulivendula, Rajampet and Proddatur, where the party had considerable influence in the past. Rachamallu Ramadevi, wife of YSRCP state spokesperson and former MLA Rachamallu Sivaprasad Reddy, also withdrew her candidature at the last minute due to personal reasons.

As a result, elections will be held only in Kadapa Municipal Corporation and Jammalamadugu and Pulivendula Municipalities, as per the revised schedule.

In Kadapa, TDP zonal coordinator R. Srinivasa Reddy and MLA R. Madhavi Reddy are campaigning hard for mayoral candidate Matli Suvarna, promising to improve basic amenities, including drinking water supply, sanitation and public safety.
