The Mysuru South Western Railway Division conducted a drive against various violations of laws, including ticketless travel.
The drive was conducted on October 15 by the Commercial Department and intensive ticket checking was carried out in various sections of the division to curb ticketless travel and other irregularities.
A total of 727 cases of various offenses were found during the drive, which resulted in a fine of ₹6.29 million.
Authorities said cases with higher penalties, such as traveling in an upper class with a lower class ticket, accounted for 543 cases with a fine of ₹5.6 million. There were 33 cases related to traveling without valid tickets and fetched ₹37,640 in penalties, while other cases related to smoking or vending among others.
Authorities said strict vigil would be maintained across the division to ensure that passengers travel with proper tickets and follow railway rules, adding that it was not a one-off run.
Such drives not only help raise revenue but also encourage disciplined and legal travel behavior among passengers, authorities said.
