
Industries Minister P Rajeeve and Local Government Minister MB Rajesh have directed the local bodies to complete bio-mining at Kalamassery Municipal Landfill in a time-bound manner.
Ministers issued the guidelines after reviewing the progress of the project. The chairman of the municipality, Jamal Manakkadan, informed the ministers about the current status of the project.
State-of-the-art machinery is used for scientific processing and disposal of old waste. Of the total estimated 44,742 cubic meters of old waste at the site, 28,512 cubic meters have already been cleared, according to the release.
Once the waste is completely removed and the land levelled, the prime property worth over ₹50 crore will be available for various projects of the civic body, the municipality said. The project is being implemented under the Kerala Solid Waste Management Project (KSWMP) with financial and technical assistance from the World Bank.
The total cost of the project is ₹9.20 crore.
