Congress on Thursday, May 29, 2025) claimed that the minimum support price (SMP) for the crops for the Kharif nor did not cover the initial costs and accused the government of Modi of deception of farmers on behalf of the MSP.
“The MSP has become the maximum suffering of the producers,” said the Secretary General of the Randeep Surjewala Congress to reporters at a press conference.
Mr. Surjewala said that the center is attributed to the announcement of a higher CRP for crops, but the fact is that the SME is much lower than “C2) plus 50 %” formula recommended Swaminathan Commission. He said that while the center declared SMEs, it barely buys crops for this rate and farmers are “cheated”. “What makes sense to announce the SME when not buying?” he asked.
Congress head, referring to the SMP to Paddy, announced the center and claimed it was less than 766 GBP than the 50% C2 Plus formula. Mr. Surjewala said that the right SME should be 3,135 GBP, while the government announced only 2,369 SMEs for Paddy.
He said that the NDA/BJP-cited states said the entry costs were more than MSP and Bihar, Gujarat and Maharashtra recommended the MSP 3 260 GBP, 3,000 and 4,783 GBP.
Mr. Surjewala argued that the “marginal increase” in the SME government is less than the inflation rate, because the cost of farmers are rising due to an increase in prices of diesel, electricity, seeds and fertilizers. He also referred to a reduction in the amount of 24,000 GBP in the fertilizer subsidy by the government.
