Police Surrey in England faces criticism after the arrest of the mother. Amanda Brown, 50, was arrested after taking the iPads of her daughters. The incident occurred in Cobham 26 March, Daily Mirror informed.
Amanda, a history teacher, said she was shocked and traumatized after a few hours after being held in a police cell. She took the iPads from her daughters as a punishment.
The man in her house, believed to be her partner or relative, called the police and reported iPads as stolen.
Two police officers came to her house to check the complaint “concerns about security”. When the man reported that the iPads were missing, the police followed them using the tracking technology and found them in Amand’s second property.
The police asked Amanda to return the iPads, but refused. Then the police arrested her for suspicion of theft.
Amanda was transported to the Staines police station, where it was held in custody. She said the police acted “overly” and “unprofessional” way.
The mother was fingerprints and photographed “as a criminal”. Amanda was angry that the police even spoke hard with his 80 -year -old mother.
After a three -hour waiting, Amanda’s attorney was informed. The police later confirmed that the iPads belonged to Amand’s daughters and that as their mother had all the right to take them away.
Amanda was released on bail. Nevertheless, she was asked not to contact her daughter during the investigation.
Amanda said the whole situation was unnecessary and poorly dealt with. They believe that the police should soon realize that it was a family matter, not a criminal case.
The next day, the police closed the case when it became clear that Amanda had owned iPads through her children. All deposit conditions have been removed.
Police Surrey accepted that Amanda had the right to entertain the iPads, but was not apologized for the stress caused. They claimed that their officers followed the right procedures.
Former police commissioner Anthony Stansfield criticized the police for apologizing.
What the police said
The main superintendent Aimee Ramm explained that the police initially went to Amand’s house for security fears. She was arrested only because she refused to cooperate when she was asked to return the iPad.
Throughout the incident, health care professionals were also called for security concerns. The police even visited Amanda’s daughter’s school, but just to check their security.
