K. Shivakumar, MLC, called upon the Adivasi communities to come together and start a common struggle to get the facilities they are entitled to.

He was addressing the 6th session of the Adivasi Janata Parliament held at the DEED Institution premises in Hunsur on Friday.

Mr. Shivakumar emphasized the need for an organized movement and a united effort by the tribal communities to secure their rights.

He expressed concern that the ideals enshrined in the constitution of Dr. BR Ambedkar did not fully reach the Adivasi communities. “Tribals have not been given their due share in education, healthcare, employment and basic infrastructure,” he said.

He called upon the tribal youth, women and elders from Chamarajanagar to Udupi to come together and build a united movement to protect the rights of their community. If the current generation failed to fight for their rights, it would be an injustice to the next generation, he added.

Terming it unfortunate that Masthamma, a Rajyotsava awardee, continues to live in a shack without proper housing, Mr. Shivakumar demanded that she deserves the house and it should be constructed as soon as possible. He directed the officials concerned to look into the matter.

On this occasion, the MLC received a memorandum containing 20 demands from community representatives. Mr. Shivakumar assured them that it would be forwarded to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of the state.

Officials from the DEED institution, including Mr. Srikanth, and local leaders of the Adivasi community were present.
