The Ministry of Textile was involved in experts from the South Zone Weavers’ Service Center (WSC), Chennai to conduct a new reconnaissance on the Town Town Towns of Jamdani Saree and the socio-economic status of weavers on the coast of the Kakinada district.
The Jamdanani UPPadani technique, registered within the Geographical Indications Register (GI) in 2009, limits production to the UPPAD region. The vessel, known for its double -sided motifs, relies on the dexterity of young girls whose sharp sight allows the accurate movement of yarn across the warp and weft.
In the release of Kakinada Tangella Uday Srinivas, “Union Minister Giriraj Singh was informed about the Jamdani Craftpad.
Design & Development Focus
“The state proposed assistance at 12 GBP in the National Manual Development Program (NHDP), with 3 GBP Crore in the corresponding funds. Mr. Giriraj Singh assured the center support after the WSC submitted its message,” said Mr. UDay Srinivas.
The aim of NHDP (2022–26) is to strengthen the industry, raw material subsidies and better market access. There are nearly 80% of weavers of a fishing community woman in upad. Many traditional weavers have shifted the roles to become championship weavers and invest in the production of Jamdani Saree.
Cooperative collapse
The lonely cooperative cooperative in Uppad stopped the production of sari and quoted the lack of active weavers. Until 2022, only one weave remained in the company.
Currently, no designer Jamdani Saree is located in the GI area and forces the weavers to depend on local fishing motifs. The vessel was previously revived at the end of 80. “More than 700 people involved in weaving will benefit if the center expands the help of NHDP,” said Mr. Uday Srinivas. The future of the craft and its craft community now depends on the recommendations of WSC.
From 2019 to 2024, the Andhra Pradesh government provided 24,000 GBPs to each family of 24,000 GBPs every year.
