The project of the Deilling project of 24,800 in the GBP in the village of Sembiyavelankadi, Sirkazhi Taluk, under a special start -up scheme of the Water Resources Department, was inaugurated on Monday by Minister for Gospel for Siva V. Meyanathan. The project includes a clearing of 22 km of Porai channel in front of the southwest monsoon to improve the flooding and driving of the flood.
The event was attended by the district collector HS SRIKANTH, Pompuhar Mla Nivedha M. Murugan, Sirkazhi Mla M. Panneerselvam and Mayladuturai Mla S. Rajakar.
Porai channel comes from Puthumanniyar in Kumarakudi and irrigates 4,008 acres across six villages. It serves as a key drainage channel for five others before it is released into Vellalam Uppanar. The channel is suffocated with mud and dense weed growth, brakes the flow of water and represents the risks for irrigation and drainage. The aim of working on shutdown is to restore the full capacity of the channel and prevent the flooding of agricultural land.
Mr. Meyyanathan said that in the Mayiladuthurai district over the last three years, the Mayiladuthurai district was completed from 194, which covered 2,764.39 km, for the price of 32.98 crore. For 2025–26, the state government approved 1,071 projects across Tamil Nadu, covering 6 179.60 km at 120 GBP Crore. Of these, the 80 works in Mayiladuthurai in itself spread 965.65 km at the price of CRORE 11.33 GBP, everything that needs to be completed by May.
