In an effort to support the awareness of the management of disasters among university students, Alappuzha District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) launched a project entitled Security and Preventive Measures on the campus. The project was inaugurated by Minister of Saji Cherian in office, which took place on Monday (October 13, 2025) in the Auditorium Carmel Engineering College in PunnaPra.
Mr. Cherian, who spoke to the event, said that the young generation in Kerala was a model for the world and had a strong presence in the field of knowledge. “Students should be able to respond quickly and accept management during crisis situations caused by climate change. For this reason, children should have proper training. Educational institutions and district administration would ensure that students have completed swimming with fire safety systems, CPR and first aid,” he said.
Mr. Cherian officially announced the launch of the Campus Rapid Action (CRAT) team and released a manual for the management of disaster. The project, the first of its kind in the state, was launched under the leadership of DDM in order to be aware of the management of disasters between university students and develop the leadership of the skills and a sense of responsibility for quickly and efficiently to respond during emergencies.
As part of the initiative, 100 students from each college are selected. The project is carried out with the support of the State and District Offices of the Catastropics, the Department of Emergency Services, Teachers and Students from selected universities in the district.
