The Minister of Forest Kerala Ak Sasendran on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) is called “half -truths” and “unsubstantiated” about reported claims concerning the powers of the state to kill wild animals and the recent death of adolescents in Malappuram because of the living wire laid for wild buds.
Mr. Sasendran said that the Minister of the Environment of the Union only repeated the accusation of the opposition with regard to the boy’s death.
He denied that there was any negligence by the state government, as the Minister of the Union allegedly claimed.
Mr. Sasendran also stated that while the main guardian of wild animals (CWC) has the power to order the killing of a wild animal that causes loss of life or property in populated areas, a standard operational procedure (SOP) must be observed before the issue of any such direction.
One of the requirements within the SOP is to be a committee for a local area, which also includes representatives of the National Tigers Protection Office, the Minister of Forest said.
He said that there are similar impractical requirements in SOP that hinders a decision to take CWC.
“We sent a letter requesting the central government to take relaxation with regard to such requirements in the SOP.
He argued that such “double standards” of the center were responsible for suffering of people living in the wooded hill areas of Kerala.
Mr. Yadav, while allegedly spoke to the media in Delhi, accused the government of the boy for the boy’s death and also claimed that the center had issued instructions that allowed Panchayats to kill wild buds if they pose a threat to human life and property.
Fifteen -year -old Anantha, aka Jithu, a student of class 10, died after contact with a live wire from an electric fence set up illegally on private soil to capture the wild cabins on Saturday in a ligamental in the Malappuram district.
