Home Minister G. Parameshwara will hold a meeting of senior officers to discuss allegations of some convicts receiving VIP treatment in jails, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in Davangere on Sunday.
He said that serious legal action would be taken against the officials found guilty.
“We have reports of some inmates in Parappana Agrahara jail who are getting luxurious facilities,” he said.
The home minister will meet senior officials in Bengaluru on Monday to discuss the issue.
“It seems that some officials concerned have gone on leave. A meeting is scheduled for tomorrow. Serious action will be taken against those who made mistakes and steps will be taken to prevent such things from happening in future,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after returning from a government program in Kudliga.
“I don’t disable RSS”
Reacting to RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat’s statement that the state government was trying to ban RSS events in the state, the chief minister said there was no such attempt by the state government.
“The order issued by us mandates that any organization or association that wants to organize events should get permission from the Deputy Commissioner of the concerned district. But then we cannot continue to react to every statement made by the RSS leaders,” the chief minister said.
Taluk and zilla panchayat elections will be held as per court order, he said in response to a question.
“As of now, the case is in court. Once the orders are issued, we will hold a vote,” he said.
Asked about the reported reluctance of sugar mill owners to comply with the state government’s decision to pay ₹3,250 per tonne of sugarcane, the chief minister said the decision was taken in their presence and he was confident they would pay.
“Every factory has to pay the increased price of ₹50. Even those who have not paid so far will continue to pay,” he said.
“Those who fail to pay will face legal action,” he added.
“It is a settled fact that the Union government fixes fair and remunerative prices. We are here to see that farmers get remunerative prices for their produce,” he said.
He said the state government would soon release compensation for an estimated 11 million hectares of land damaged by heavy rains in the state.
He said the issue of representation of the Valmiki community in the state cabinet would be considered during the reshuffle.
