The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) Syndicate meeting on Wednesday was adjourned due to lack of quorum. Government nominees, including senior bureaucrats, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) MLAs abstained from the meeting to protest the refusal of Vice-Chancellor-in-Charge K. Sivaprasad to implement the decisions taken during the previous Syndicate meeting held last month. The Syndicate then decided to recommend the reappointment of former Registrar A. Praveen and former Controller of Examinations Ananda Resmi R. However, the VC claimed that reappointment was not possible as they left the service after their deputations were over. He added that no such appointment could be made without the consent of the Raj Bhavan. The statutory body was expected to discuss key issues, including the construction of a new administration building, the renewal of the university’s software systems contract and various academic issues.
