The Supreme Court urged a woman to “earn and live with dignity” as she requested £12 Crore and an apartment in Mumbai from his stolen husband in maintenance. The woman told the Supreme Court that she wanted in Mumbai without the cost of an apartment and £12 crore as permanent, one -time maintenance.
According to Bare and Bench, the bench of the main judge of India Br Gavai and Justices for the wine chandran and NV Anjaria questioned the quantum of women’s demand, due to the short duration of marriage and the professional background of the woman.
“It took only 18 months. And you look for a month in a month?” The main judge watched.
When Cji Gavai asked women about her educational and professional qualifications, she said she was holding MBA and working in the IT sector.
“You are employer in places like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Why not work?” Cji Gavai asked.
In response, the woman stated that her husband had come from considerable wealth and sought to abolish the marriage because she was mentally ill.
“He told me schizophrenic,” she said, asking rhetorically if it seems to be good in court.
Meanwhile, the main advocate Madhavi Divan, representing her husband, claimed that a woman could not expect full financial support indefinitely.
“She is educated and able to work,” Divan said, adding that the requirements were excessive and were not rooted in a legal claim.
The Supreme Court’s bench then asked for details of the husband’s income in an effort to determine the fair settlement. The husband’s tax return was submitted when the matter was renewed after the cabin.
Finally, the Supreme Court offered two options to the woman – either to accept an apartment without any legal burden, or to settle a flat -rate settlement £4 crore.
CJI categorically said that those who are educated and capable should not choose unemployment of the choice and then claim exaggerated maintenance.
“You are well educated. You should not be depending on the submissions. You should earn and live with dignity,” the chief judge said before the bench reserved the matter for order.
The Supreme Court reserved an order for marital disputes on 21 July.
