Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Firhad Hakim, on Friday (May 2, 2025) ordered the closure of all roof restaurants in the city after the announcement issued on the same day. “The load and covering of the roofs is illegal because it is a common space. In the case of fire, the roof must be used for safety. According to Kolkata’s construction rules, all roof restaurants are unlawful. He warned that KMC would submit cases against equipment that do not meet the order.
Mr. Hakim also emphasized the importance of citizens’ responsibility about fire and urban security. A high -level committee has been created for exploration of various buildings throughout the city and is expected to submit its report within 15 days.
