Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) leader M. Pradeep, who is returning for the second time as Attingal Municipality Chairman, has focused on launching major infrastructure in waste management, health and other sectors.
The scenario in the Attingal local body election results played out almost similar to the previous two elections, with the Left Democratic Front (LDF) emerging as the front with the maximum number of seats. However, with 16 seats, it was still one short of the required majority of 17.
Mr. Pradeep previously served as the Chairman of the Municipality during the tenure of 2015-2020 during which the civic body won national awards especially in waste management. He told The Hindu on Tuesday that one of the projects initiated by the new administration was the construction of a new city hall.
“Although the town hall project was considered during my term, it was never taken up. Now the procedures have been completed and the construction work started yesterday (Monday),” he said.
In the waste management sector, the priority would be the establishment of an incinerator for the processing of sanitary waste. The work on the sanitary landfill would also be completed, he said. Another major initiative would be a waste management facility for the Taluk Government Hospital. The municipality was also planning to construct a mortuary and cold storage facility at the hospital as well as a destitute shelter attached to the hospital, he said.
Drinking water scarcity in several areas was expected to be addressed through a major project to be launched in collaboration with the Kerala Water Authority to improve connectivity. The women’s hostel facility would also start functioning at the earliest, Mr. Pradeep said.
