Thrissur appeared as an epicenter of the state dialogue of state planning, when the Council of the Mayors of All-Keral convened on Tuesday to deal with the growing challenges of the city development during rapid urbanization.
The mayors demanded the creation of the Metropolitan Planning Committee (MPC) and emphasized its basic role in leading the initiatives in the field of modern city development throughout the state.
They emphasized the urgency of this matter, and the mayors stressed that MPC should originally be established in Kochi and Thiruvananthapurama, key metropolitan nodes in the state to formulate strategic plans in accordance with the developing needs of growing cities. They argued that the absence of such a body was hampered by the ability to create a sustainable, prospective urban infrastructure.
The mayors made several requirements, including the need for the government to recognize all the accounts submitted on March 24 as part of the current year budget without postponing it until the following year. They also called for the basic functions of Kollam and Kannur to strengthen administrative abilities.
The Council urged the government to allow corporations to hire critical roles such as financial manager, city planner, legal advisor, IT manager, mechanical engineer and electrical engineer, one year.
They also demanded the implementation of recommendations from the Keral Municipal Commission, including the removal of the DPC approval requirement (District Planning Committee) for projects funded through corporate funds.
The mayors also defended freedom of corporations to secure loans from banks without setting any financial responsibility for the government. They also emphasized the need for other employees to support zero waste initiatives.
Interaction with Mediaperons, M. Anilkumar, President of the Council of the Mayor and Mayor of Kochi and the Mayors of MK Varghes (Thrissur), Honey Benjamin (Kollam), Been Philip (Kozhikode) and Muslih Mapathlil (Kannur) (Kannur), collided for robust urban politicians at Furtist’s Future.
