Delhi Police on Thursday confirmed that the man who carried out the high-intensity blast near the iconic Red Fort in the national capital was Dr Umar Un Nabi.
He was believed to be driving a Hyundai i20 that exploded near Red Fort Metro Station on 10 November 2025. A powerful blast ripped through a slow-moving car near Delhi’s Red Fort area on Monday evening.
Police said: “A DNA test confirmed that the man who carried out the blast near Red Fort was Dr Umar Un Nabi.”
“After the blast, his foot got stuck between the steering wheel and the gas pedal. His DNA sample matched that of his mother,” Delhi Police was quoted as saying by ANI nws agency.
Who was Umar Nabi?
Umar Nabi was an assistant professor at Al-Falah University in Haryana’s Faridabad district, news agency PTI reported earlier. He was allegedly part of a terrorist module arrested while procuring explosives mainly from Faridabad.
Umar hailed from Koil village in Lethpora in Pulwama district. He was carrying explosives, possibly ammonium nitrate, in a car that exploded near the Red Fort on November 10, officials said.
Investigations reportedly revealed that Umar waited at the Sunehri Masjid parking lot near the Red Fort for nearly three hours while searching the internet for updates regarding the arrest of his associates in Faridabad.
Investigators were also able to create an 11-hour trail of Umar’s vehicle.
Nabi is believed to have died in the blast.

Umar was a key member of a “white-collar” terrorist cell that was arrested earlier this week. The blast near Red Fort took place just hours after the Jammu and Kashmir Police seized nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosives in Faridabad.
Police busted a terror cell linked to the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind and arrested eight people including three doctors.
Around 3,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate and sulfur were seized after police busted a terrorist cell spread across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
