The 60 -year -old man in Japan was arrested after the police found his mother’s dead body in her apartment. It was there for 10 years.
Sohisa Miyawaki said he had not reported her death because of social phobia. The man has no job or a permanent home.
The case came to light in May when a government worker in Kobe saw Miyawaki limp on the road. When Miyawaki asked about his identity and mother, he was silent. This caused official suspicions and he informed the police.
In June, the police went to the apartment registered under the name Miyawaki’s mother. They found piles of garbage. Later they discovered the skeleton in the toilet.
Miyawaki admitted that he knew about the death of his mother, but did not inform anyone. The police accused him of leaving the corpse. This incident shocked a lot and raised questions about social isolation in the Japanese aging society, according to the South China morning post.
“About 10 years ago my mother found out that she was not breathing in the toilet.
“As an ordinary man, I knew my mother had died. I dared not call the police because I had a social phobia,” he added.
At the beginning of July, Kobe’s police confirmed that the dead body was really found at Miyawaki’s mother. She probably died a year ago. There were no signs of murder. However, the investigation is still ongoing.
The reaction of social media
Many online users blamed their son. One of them said that a false social phobia, just to earn his mother’s pension. Others wondered how the neighbors didn’t notice it.
“Why so many years, why didn’t her neighbors find out about her death? Wasn’t she a strong smell from her body?” The user has written.
