A 41 -year -old man was arrested on Sunday for theft of 5,000 cash from Hundi in the temple of ArunaChalesware in Tiruvannamalai. The police said the arrested person was identified as P. Sabarinathan, a native of Tiruvarur.
The initial investigation revealed that Sabarinathan has been on a pilgrimage to various temples in the state in the last few weeks. A few days ago he came to the city of Tiruvannamalai to visit the temple. When the temple was witnessing a huge crowd, he noticed that the Hundis in the temple had been quickly filled. He also saw that the temple authorities and the police are busy with the regulation of crowds in the temple.
The police said he saw one of the hundes in the temple, where gifts, especially the cash of the devotees, overflowed and spilled. He pretended to have donated money in Hundi and robbed about 5,000 GBP.
Immediately, other devotees noticed theft. They warned the temple authorities and the police who threw themselves into the place. The stolen cash was obtained from him and the Municipal Police of Tiruvannamalai registered the case. He was arrested and stored on a sub-yail in the city. The probe is running.
