The sophisticated air defense system faced the main test on Friday evening, when Iran fired ballistic missiles towards the ground, with some allegedly distinctive areas in Tel Aviv.
According to the Israeli army, most incoming missiles were successfully captured, although several of them hit buildings, causing limited damage. The Iron Dome system, developed by Israel with us, specializes in shooting short range missiles. Since it was activated at the beginning of the last decade, it has captured thousands of missiles – including thousands of wiretaps during the current war against Hamas and Hezbollah.
Israel says it has a success rate of over 90%.

The continuing strikes of Israel on Iranian nuclear facilities killed 78 people and wounded more than 320 on Friday, according to the Iranian Ambassador at the UN. While the attacks focused on generals and scientists, the ambassador told the UN Security Council that the “stunning majority” killed were civilians.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged Israel and Iran to stop his attacks while calling for diplomacy.
“Israeli bombing of Iranian nuclear places. Iranian missile strikes in Tel Aviv. Enough escalation. Time to stop. Peace and diplomacy must win,” Guterres wrote on Saturday.
The overwhelming majority of the killed were civilians.
Time to stop. Peace and diplomacy must win.
Over the years, Israel has built an advanced defense system to detect incoming threats and respond only if they represent a danger to populated areas or critical military and civilian sites. Although Israeli officials acknowledge that the system is not reliable, they attribute it to a great destruction and saving many lives.
