The Madras High Court set aside the order appointing the interim administrator of the Chettinad Vidyashram School

A Division Bench of the Madras High Court set aside the order passed by a single judge on 14 May 2025 appointing an interim administrator of the company that runs the Chettinad Vidyashram School in Chennai and referred the matter to a single judge for fresh consideration.

A bench comprising Justices P. Velmurugan and K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi asked the single judge to allow all the interested parties to file their counter-affidavits before passing orders seeking the appointment of a special officer as the district registrar of companies for the management of the company.

The request was made while disposing of a number of appeals filed by some members of the steering committee. Senior Counsel Krishna Srinivasan and others appeared for the appellant and challenged the order of the Single Judge on several grounds including failure to give opportunity to file counter-affidavit.

“However, keeping in mind the paramount interest and smooth running of the educational institution,” the union bench directed that the meetings of the management committee be postponed till the single judge hears the matter and passes the necessary orders as soon as possible.
