Public representatives and leaders of farmers’ associations urged the government to take steps to revive extinct sugar factories in Bhimasingi and Sithanagaram, which played a key role in providing economic activities in rural areas of the Vizianagam district.
According to them, sugar cane cultivation decreased from 4500 hectares to less than 3,000 hectares to close these factories. Farmers in the district are now forced to transport sugar cane to the Sanili Styli factory in the district of SRICAKULM for processing.
One of the oldest confectionery, Bhimasingi Cooperative Sugar Factory in Jami Mandal, has stopped operations five years ago due to an outdated machine and a lack of sugar cane supply. A similarly privately operated NCS Sugar Factory factory stopped processing three years ago because it was inanimate.
Lok’s state president of the satta Bhisetti Babji called the Minister for MSME Kondapalli Srinivas to take steps to revive the Bhimasingi Council factory. He stressed that nearly 300 employees who lost their jobs did not receive the provisional fund, reward or other benefits after the operation.
Reddi Shankar Rao’s leader (M) Reddi stressed that once, when both sugars were functional, the rural economy was prospering in several mandals. He called on the government to support the revival of operations in these factories so that farmers can restore growing sugar cane in the coming season.
Rythu Coolie Sangham of State Secretary Andr Pradesh Dantuluri Varma said: “If the factories are modernized, it could generate direct and indirect opportunities for livelihood and revitalize the economy for many workers.
