Almost a week after the sound conversation between the leader of the Trinamool Congress Anubrata Mondal and the officer from the Bolpur police station became viral, where Mr. Mondal is heard abuse and threatening a policeman using a nasty language, on Thursday (June 5, 2025) appeared before the police.
Mr. Mondal appeared in front of a police officer under the division (SDPO), Bolpur, and recorded his statement. Sources said that Trinamool’s leader said he was on medicines and could not remember using a nasty language against a police officer. In the sound that has become a viral, Mr. Mondal can be heard of hurling abuse and the use of unwanted remarks against his wife and mother of the police.
In the middle of the outrage Congress Trinamool ordered the leader of Birbhum to apologize, which he immediately followed. Mr. Mondal offered his apology to “Didi (Chief Minister Mamata Baerjee)”. Political parties in opposition, police officers and retired civil society, have arisen questions about why the police took no steps against the leader of Trinamool.
While the first information report (companies) was registered against Mr. Mondal according to Section 222 (threat to a civil servant), 132 (attack or criminal forces used against the civil servant), 75 (sexual harassment) and 351 (criminal intimidation) Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit (BNS) (BNS) was not arrested.
The leader of the opposition of Suvend Adhikari claimed that Mr. Mondal decided to appear before the police only after the assurance of Mrs. Banerjee that there would be no steps against him. “The main minister called Anubrat after an asset for the party. She even said that the party was offered by Rajya Sabha, who denied him. There will be no measures against him (Anubarata Mondal) and the policeman will be suspended,” Adhikari said.
State Secretary CPI (m) MD. Salim said that while the officer was asked for the Bolpur police station to put his mobile phone to investigate why the police did not capture the accused’s mobile phone in the case, Mondal.
Ncw fears
In the related development, the National Commission for Women (NCW) wrote to the CEO of the police in West Bengal Rajeev Kumar and stressed that Mr. Mondal’s notes were focused on the mother and wife of the police. NCW expressed concern about notes and alleged police inaction
“NCW was looking for a report on what steps the police were taken. Mrs. Majumdar is also a well -known BJP leader in the state.
Political observers say this is not the first time the Trinamool Congress defends Mr. Mondal. The party supported Birbhum Strongman and the main minister expanded his full support during his 24 -month imprisonment. Mr. Mondal was arrested in September 2022 and was released from prison in Delhi in September 2024. The party gave him a hero’s welcome when he returned to Birbhum after the bail was granted.
“Anubrata Mondal is not only the leader of the Congress of Trinamool, but represents, but represents the model of the party’s policy, and therefore the party defends it,” said Biswanath Chakborty, professor of political science in Kalkata’s Rabindra Bharati University.
