Inhabitants of ChandraPads Panchayat in the Mayiladuthurai district complained about the absence of street lighting, especially along key roads connecting villages and nearby towns.
Panchayat includes two villages – ChandraPads and Chinoorpettai – on the southern edge of the district, near the Karaikal border. Residents depend on nearby cities in Karaikal or Tharangambadi for basic services. The connecting roads, however, lack street lights, which after 18:00 makes traveling to be dangerous
“After 20:00, we avoid performances, unless it is necessary. The roads are dark, street dogs wander freely and some people under the influence of alcohol ruthlessly from the Karaikal side. It is dangerous, especially for women and seniors,” said Tamil Vani, ChandraPads.
Jagan S., another inhabitants, said that the roads in the village are in poor condition, which will collapse. “The roads are seriously damaged and without light it is almost impossible to walk safely at night,” he said.
Panchayat chandraPads are home to 784 families. The inhabitants repeatedly raised concerns about damaged internal roads and lack of street lighting, but the action has not yet been accepted.
The rural development official said he would deal with the question.
