On Sunday (October 12, 2025), thousands of people from different tribal groups in Ranchi pulled out “Akrosh Mahally” to protest against the Kurmi Community for the state of the planned tribe (ST).
The Assembly, which was attended by tribal leaders, young and women from various districts of the state, was excluded from Ranchi’s Morabad land and participants threatened to intensify the protest if any step was provided to be provided to the status of Kurmi.
The rally culminated in a public meeting on the Ramdayal Munda football field near Ranchi College.
Kumudini Dhan, a tribal leader, said it was just a manifestation of all 32 state tribes to show tribal power. “If any step of giving St Curmi status is taken, Jharkhand will see a greater agitation,” she said.
President Kendriya Sarna Samiti Ajay Tirkey said he would not allow anyone to catch the right of the tribe.
“All tribes in the state are united and are aware of their rights. The plot is evolving the usurping of constitutional rights, political representation, reservations and land rights of tribes,” he said.
Gladson Dungdung, another tribal leader, said it was a battle for the protection of tribal existence.
On September 20, thousands of protesting squatting on railway lines at various stations throughout the state under the auspices of Adivasi Kurmi Samaj (AKS) to push their demand for the planned TRIBE status (ST) for the Kurmi community and integrate the curmaling into the eighth schedule of the constitutional plan.
Agitation led to the abolition, diversion and short termination of more than 100 trains. The tribal groups protested against the Kurmi Community.
