The state highway will soon expand the existing narrow road Truvannamalai near the Temple of Arunachalesware in the city to provide more road space, especially for ambulances, government buses and school supplies on the route.
Officials of state motorways said the narrow section is the key way for the connection of the surrounding villages with the city. It also provides a short journey for passengers and pilgrims remotely to reach the city, especially the 14 km long journey of Girivam and the temple. “The guard near the road above the bridge will be expanded to provide more road space for motorists and pedestrians. For this purpose, adequate land will be obtained on both sides of the bridge,” said S. Anbaras, auxiliary executive engineer (AEE), state highway (Tiruvannamalai), Hindus.
The expansion of the work will be financed within the road development project (CMRDP). The section will be extended from the existing seven meters to 10.5 meters to use unused road space and get private soil.
The work will be carried out in coordination with Tiruvannamei Corporation, Police and Tangedco as a key water pipeline from the Sathanur dam for domestic consumption inside the civic body passes through the section. “During the traffic rush, it is difficult for school vehicles, government buses and offices to navigate narrow roads, resulting in traffic jams. Expansion of the section is a welcome measure,” said P. Bhaskan, secretary, tiruvannalai all traders’ Association.
As part of the land acquisition for this work, the collector K. Tharpagaraj took a meeting with the parties involved, including officials from the Department of Income, State Motorways, Corporations, Police, to consolidate and compensate for affected families on the route.
The motorway officials said that on both sides of the section should be obtained 1.90 m2 to expand. With the exception of several government buildings, such as building the market committee, most of the land is owned by private individuals.
According to the plan, the section will be expanded by a distance of 425 meters, especially under the bridge, so that the vehicles make it easy to navigate in the city. The existing narrow rainwater on both sides of the section will be extended to release excess rainwater and prevent the city from flooding during the monsoon. Each drain will be three feet wide and four feet deep.
Classified sidewalks will be laid on the widespread runoff to allow pedestrians to use space instead of walking on the road instead of pedestrians. There is also a separate space that measures 50 cm wide, between the drain and the road is laid blocks of roads for useful work, including electric lines and internet cables. It prevents unnecessary road cutting to pay any guilt in these lines in the section. The whole work will begin in the coming months.
