The state government is considering freezing the strengthening of seats for computer science (CSE) to prevent weight loss of private engineering universities in levels-1 and unemployment.
The TELANGANA High Court recently confirmed the decision of the TELAngany government to strengthen the CSE seats and the Minister of Higher Education MC Sudhakar said the order was reviewed.
“Last year, the Thelangany government imposed a restriction on strengthening CSE seats in private engineering universities. It was questioned by some private engineering university proceedings at the Supreme Court.
According to the announced matrix of the seats of the Ministry of the University Ministry for Courses of Engineering and Architecture in the State, the academic year 2024-25 was 1.32 309 seats. This included 62,930 seats under the government quota, 28,656 seats under the quota of Komez-K and 5 155 seats under the supernatural quota. Among them, approximately 45,000 chairs are only CSE and related courses.
Currently, there is a huge demand for seats in CSE for the availability of employment, among other things. The All India (AICTE) Technical Education Council is a power to grant permission to start new engineering universities, courses and strengthening seats on the basis of infrastructure.
The Council removed the ceiling for engineering acceptance and enables improvement of engineering seats on the basis of the demand of technical universities.
Taking this as an apology, some private engineering universities in Tier-1 have increased the number of seats more than the limit set by the state government on the basis of infrastructure by obtaining permission from AICTE. Some universities have 1,500 to 2,000 seats only for CSE courses.
AICTE letter
This has led to an imbalance between traditional and developing engineering disciplines, fungi of engineering universities in Tier-1 and the increase in seats for one course, leading to a shortage of jobs related to this course in the future.
Mr. Sudhakar, in October 2023, wrote AICTE to express concerns about his lenient standards, which he claimed to have led to excessive concentration of engineering universities in Tier-1 and a lot of courses in popular subjects such as CSE. As he said, it disrupted the balance in technical education throughout the state.
He also asked AICTE to order the State Government (Night) before approval. AICTE, however, reportedly did not respond positively to the letter of the Minister.
“AICTE only gives permission to increase the number of new universities, courses and strengthening seats when looking at the basic infrastructure. However, it does not take into account the problems that arise in the future by allowing to increase seats for the same courts.
“IT IS NO SECRET THAT THERE Are More Job Opportunities for Computer Science and Related Engineering Graduates in the Job Market at the Moment. Therefore, There Is and High Demand for These Course in Colleges with Good Infrastructure. I Do Not know for What Purpose The Government Is Saying That The Seats of CSE Should be Frozen.
