Chennai Super Kings have named Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha as a replacement for injured uncapped player Ramakrishna Ghosh for the remainder of the 2026 Indian Premier League season.
Noronha joins the franchise for Rs 30 crore after gaining recognition in domestic cricket with a string of strong performances. The 24-year-old was recently awarded the MA Chidambaram Trophy at the NAMAN Awards for being the highest scorer in the Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy 2024-25.
His domestic performances also earned him a call-up to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy squad in Karnataka, where he featured in three matches. In his last match in December 2025 against Tripura, Noronha impressed with a blistering 34 off 21 deliveries and also chipped in with a wicket.
WHAT HAPPENED TO RAMAKRISHNA GHOSH?
Movement comes after Ghosh was ruled out for the rest of the season with a right leg injury sustained during Chennai’s clash against Mumbai Indians on 3
Ghosh was yet to make his long-awaited IPL debut in this match and played a role in Chennai’s impressive eight-wicket win. Brought into the attack in a high-pressure contest, the youngster returned figures of 1 for 24 from his three overs, claiming the important wicket of Suryakumar Yadav, who looked dangerous after racing to 21 from just 12 balls.
Despite the setback, Chennai will be hoping that Noronha can provide useful depth as they continue their push for a play-off spot.
CSK’S HOPE FOR THE PLAY-OFFS
After a rough start, losing their opening three matches, Chennai revived their campaign with six wins from their last eight matches to get back into contention.
Their next challenge will come on May 15 against Lucknow Super Giants, a match they will consider a must-win before finishing the league stage against SunRisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans.
With several playoff contenders still picking up points in the coming days, 18 points is generally expected to be the qualifying benchmark. This means that Chennai will likely have to win all three of their remaining league matches to secure a top-four finish.
However, the momentum appears to be with the five-time champions, who have rediscovered their rhythm at the right time after a shaky start to the campaign.
Noronha now joins a team that is still fighting for its season, with Chennai hoping the uncapped all-rounder can make an impact if called upon during the business end of the tournament.
